SOCCER PARENTS – WE NEED YOUR HELP!!!

Did you know that our soccer program (aside from coaches) is run and staffed entirely by volunteers?  While you are tightening your home budgets during these difficult economic times, the schools are doing the same. If you would like to maintain the quality soccer program and activities our players have enjoyed in the past, we as parents must be prepared to assume a greater role. In order to help offset any future cuts to our program and it’s funding,

fundraisers such as our Discount Cards, upcoming Boys (Nov. 24-26) and Girls Soccer Tournaments (Dec. 19,20) and Golf Tournament  (Dec. 6th) are crucial.

How can you help?

  • Volunteer to work more than the required 2 shifts at one of the above events. Our board members log well over 300hrs over and above the work you see at the field.
  • Learn the ropes from an existing Board Member. This will aid the booster organization to keep continuity of the program when the 4 board members who are parents of Juniors have graduated. Some officers, such as myself, will not be returning to the board in their same capacity next season and we will need parents to step up to fill these important positions.
  • Chair a committee -

Senior Night-  is Dec 12th. Help us celebrate our Seniors. Please call Nancy Saxman 387 - 5849 and offer your help. This is a great start for an underclass parent.

Banquet Committee- usually held in mid Feb. to early March. Help to organize the venue and menu.

Golf Tournament-Craig Briggs 232 8857 has put the golf tournament together nearly single handedly for 3 years now. We urgently need raffle item donations and goodie bag items, Craig will be leaving us soon and if this fundraiser is to continue, someone must step forward to chair it. Volunteers are need to work varies hours the day of the tournament.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the following volunteers for their hard work and dedication to Sailor Soccer.

Victor Garraus and Roberto DiMichielle have been a great help this year in their positions as Boys’ Rep and Concession Director respectively.

Mary DeShaies, of the Girls JV. is the chief fundraiser and t-shirt committee chair.

Leslie Leonard, Boys’ Varsity, is the secretary- in charge of all printing and publishing.

Sue Jennings from the Girls’ Varsity has been a right hand to Nancy Saxman who has been working with our girls for 2 years now while also chairing the Sr. Night activities.

Lee Tuck stepped forward this year to become our Treasurer.

I want to extend a special thanks to Kim Lennon-Jotham of the Boys’ JV team for offering her help with the Tribute Video for the year end banquet. We look forward to seeing it

These parents deserve your thanks. Without them, we would not have supplies for the kids, awards or recognition, directions to the games, info on the website or lights on our fields.

Please let us know in which area you are able to help.  There is something to fit everyone’s schedules and abilities.  Remember our Sarasota Sailor Soccer Program is only as good as we make it!  Let’s all work together to make Sailor’s Soccer a success!

Thank You

SHS SOCCER NEWS 11/11/08

www.sarasotahighsoccer.com

Discount Card        Great stocking stuffers! Easy holiday gift!  Perfect for teachers!

Parents have expressed concern that players are having a difficult time selling the Discount Cards. While we believe they are a good value and can be sold with a little effort, times are getting a little tighter. We have modified our expectations. Each player is to sell a minimum of 5 cards. The money is due to the team rep NO LATER than Fri. Nov 21st. If they choose not to sell the other 5 cards, they must be turned in at that time. For selling each additional 5 cards, the player, will be rewarded with $10 at the Banquet. All money and/or cards are due in by Dec 5th at the latest.  Money from this fundraiser covers the boosters costs: socks, backpacks, extra uniforms and player trophies and banquet meals. Normally this is covered by having each player PAY $50. at teh beginning of the season.

This change makes all others fundraisers vitally important!

Opportunities to sell your cards

Chic Fil A Dec. 4th (Fruitville Rd ) 5-8pm earn money for the teams and sell your cards

Books a Million - Sat. Nov 29th 12-4PM  10% of all sales go to SSSC sell your cards to shoppers

Golf Tournament- Sat. Dec. 6 Rolling Green Golf Course

To make the largest fundraiser of the year a success, we need your help

  • Can you make a gift basket or solicit one from a local business?
  • Help gather cash donations from your team and assemble a 2 gift baskets

(donations would not have been required had we maintained the 10 card sale policy)

  • Do you know of a restaurant or business that will donate a gift certificate?
  • We also need items to stuff the goody bags with: pens, magnets, bottle openers, coolie cups, etc
  • Can you round up raffle items
  • Hole sponsorships: $100 buys a hole and the sign. The sign will appear at all home games for the rest of the season.
  • Prepare a food item for the post game banquet- call Craig Briggs 232 8857 .We can reimburse you for costs.

Rebounder Sales

Last order date is Dec.1 See www.sarasotahighsoccer.com for a form or there are forms at the concession trailer.

$10 is awarded to each player for each sale.

Concession       See website or field bulletin board for assignments

Never have we seen so many players working their own shifts! It’s great to see!

If a player is planning to work, please let us know. We must have at least 1 adult working per shift

Remember games and practices are to take precedence.

Gate Admission

We thank you for your support and time! Please remember that only those listed as concession workers will receive free admission to that game. Gate receipts cover our uniform costs, referees and bus transportation to away games. Each time a bus rolls, it costs approx $400. Soccer is not a major contributor to the school's income. This program depends on all gate receipts.

Boys/Girls Soccer Tournaments  Boys Nov 24-26. Girls Dec 18-20

They are fast approaching.. You have selected or been assigned your concession duties. You had the opportunity unil last week to choose your time slot. In some instances, we are asking you work with your child. This is in order to maximize manpower. We have tried to check to make certain you do not work at a remote location during your child’s game - Adjustments can be made. PLease point out any problems- Call Lori at 371-0178 loriwebster8911@verizon.net

If you can work an extra shift, IT WILL BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation. So much goes on behind the scenes. We welcome your help and input.

Thank You

Lori Webster 371-0178

The Sarasota Sailor Soccer Club is made up of parents
of the soccer players from Sarasota High School. Each year,
approximately 80 students participate in the program.
The boosters raise funds to cover c osts that exceed the County budget.
Thanks to the hard work of previous boosters, our students
are very fortunate to have
one of the only lighted,
regulation soccer fields on a public high school campus
. Our
thanks and gratitude go out to our past parents, players and
boosters for their planning and dedication to fund and install the field lighting.

It is the booster organization that supports and raises funds for the soccer playing youth of Sarasota High School. It is our responsibility to fill in the funding gaps and support the coaches however possible.
What do these funds pay for?
·      Nets and full size goals
·      Team meals for district games
·      Scholarships for players
·      Refurbished the spectator bleachers
·      Our own concession trailer
·      Hired an Assistant GJV Coach for 07-08
·      Tournament fees
·      Player’s meal year end banquet
·      Training equipment
·      The  installation of field lighting at our own Gene Pillot Field
·     Team warm ups

 Our future plans…
Permanent restrooms, player rooms and a concession area!  Sound good?  This will be done with funds you help raise. To-date we have approximately $84,000 (even with the expenses to start this season)! Numerous contractors have pledged their support…if we can only raise the additional funds to meet our $150,000 GOAL!

Fundraising is done throughout the season and can only be accomplished with your support.  Please won’t you consider:
o
chairing or helping with:  Sam’s BBQ, SHS garage sale, car wash, golf
tournament, or one of our soccer tournaments held at SHS
o
how about soliciting stores, restaurants and local businesses for gift baskets, gift certificates, etc.?
o
don’t forget our rebounder sales!  (and each player stands to make $$)
o
maybe you work for a local trade or construction supplier that could contribute
supplies and equipment or might be willing to donate their talents?
o
are you able to lead a mail campaign to solicit funds?
o
make a financial contribution yourself! All contributions are tax deductable!

Your efforts WILL make a difference!  Please pitch in and help those already working to build the future at Sarasota High!  Combining our efforts is sure to guarantee success!

BUILDING PROJECT

As many of you know, the Sarasota Sailor Soccer Boosters
and other volunteers have been making collective efforts
to complete our most ambitious project yet! Plans are
being drawn up by Pillot Architcure for a
locker room,
restroom and concession building
.
There is still much work to be done on this project but it
can be achieved with a little help. Here are some quick facts about the project:
At this point, we have raised approximately $90,000.
Several local contractors have stepped forward to donate labor
or materials toward the building. These donatations will decrease
our overall costs. We are still in need of heavy equipment
companies, a roofing  contractor/ supplier, resturant equipment
supplier and others  to help us offset the costs involved with
construction. If you are interested in helping the boosters in
any way, either with the building project, volunteering or with
fund raising ideas, please contact Lori Webster at 371-0178

The Building Includes:

Men and Women’s Locker Rooms
Permanent Concession Stand
Permanent Restroom Facilities
